Planting schemes

Garden French yellow flowers

Whether annuals, perennials or bulbs we can supply and plant to your requirements at the correct time of year to give you an excellent spring through to summertime display or even brighten up a winter bed.

We can create new borders or plant out existing borders and re-plant pots or hanging baskets.

We can also accompany you to the garden centre to advise and help you choose specific plants to suit your garden.

Spring can be the most colourful time with all manner of bulbs appearing from Daffs, Tulips, and Snowdrops, planting early can maximise potential flowering.

“Get the most out of your flowers.

Cut them and Vase them!

The more you cut the more you’ll get”

Neglected gardens

NEGLECTED GARDENS

An overgrown garden can be a nightmare, Where do you start? What can I keep? How hard can I cut it back?

We have spent many years putting life back into gardens that have been left, from one season to ten years or just redefining borders where the shrubs have grown too large and dense.

We can give you ideas on whether to widen or shorten particular borders, to help you discover plants you didn’t know you had.

We can also backfill ponds that are no longer needed or are a danger.

Whatever the state of your garden it can be put back into shape in less time than you think!

Once your garden is done we are happy to advise on planting out the empty spaces and maintaining the garden so it remains as we leave it.

Green waste is removed in sqm waste sacks. Please contact us for a detailed quote.

Other garden clearance can be arranged subject to inspection and we can arrange specialist-sized skips or clearance ourselves (depending on job size), once again please do contact us for a quote.

Recycling

Recycling wooden bench

Depending on the size of your garden, we can collect your grass cuttings and leaves throughout the latter part of the year and move them to an area to allow them to rot down over 10-12 months.

We will remove the top layer, then break down the remaining with the use of a specialised machine to produce lovely free compost.

This is normally done in November and the compost is then moved to a site within the garden where it can be used, allowing the site to be clear for the process to start again.

The new compost can be used in pots or spread around the borders in winter.

“Why pay to get rid of the leaves

when you could get free compost!”

Hedge cutting

green hedge

Depending on the growth and type of hedge we can cut up to 3 times a year.

Most of our hedge cutting is done using petrol hedge trimmers, however, some Box and smaller ornamental hedges are cut using shears to give a tighter sharper finish.

When cutting Laurel hedges we prefer to use Secateurs on the face side (subject to size) larger hedges are machine-cut.

Whatever hedge problem you have, be it a reduction, trim-up or renewing an area completely, we look forward to dealing with it.

We aim not to contour cut, this may mean allowing a hedge to develop in certain areas to achieve a straighter level.

Keep it Ivy free

and allow it to grow”

Lawn cutting

Scenic View of a Beautiful Garden with a Freshly Mowed Lawn

Our lawn-cutting service is available from March through to Mid December (weather dependent) and starts with strimming and tidying the perimeter of the lawn before the lawn is cut. All patio and path areas are then blown clean.

When strimming we take into consideration windows, patio doors and parked cars, however, accidents can happen (2 incidents in 26 years of working) and we will identify possible problems and work with you to ensure trouble-free service.

Cutting is carried out on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Please note that once booked your plan will not change and we continue cutting through dry and wet weather conditions.

Rose and shrub pruning

Garden in a French style with plants trimmed up in a classic form.

We offer Rose pruning and care throughout the year with a deadheading service through the summer months.

Rose bushes can be trimmed and reduced by a third from November, with hard pruning done once the buds have appeared in the middle of March.

Shrub pruning is available throughout the year, we prune to your specifications, whether you prefer tight and shaped or a natural appearance.

If your shrub is pruned correctly many shrubs can bloom on multiple occasions throughout the year.

“Why buy Roses? Grow your own,

we will cut and de-thorn them

for you to use indoors”

Pressure cleaning

Residential Roadway Cleaning brick using high pressure water.

During the quieter winter months, we can undertake cleaning of various exterior surfaces i.e. driveways, block paving, patios and wooden decked areas.

Decking in particular can become very slippery if left covered in leaves, mixed with moss and algae makes the perfect ice rink!

With the use of a high-powered petrol pressure washer, we can restore your area to its original state.

We will assess your area for any existing damage, for example pointing that could become displaced during the cleaning operation, however, with the use of our rotary head this will alleviate any problem.

Please look at some comparison photos of the pressure cleaning we have undertaken.

We do recommend that a surface sealer is applied after any cleaning is completed.

“Give your patio a new lease of life,

a little pressure makes a big difference”

Turfing and seeding

planting seeds

The best months to lay new turf are Oct-Nov and March-April. Where possible we turf mainly in accordance with the weather to ensure the best results for your new lawn.

However, we know this is not always possible so, as long as there are no long periods of hot weather and you have a sufficient water supply and no hosepipe ban we will be able to turf as and when required.

We remove your old turf and the ground is prepared with either a full rotivation or light till applied, where needed a conditioner can be added as the ground levelling is done.

Finally, a recommended turf will be laid. All our turf is of very high quality and a sample can be provided as requested.

(Cutting Edge take no responsibility if proper watering and aftercare advice is not followed.)

“Don’t forget the winter

if the weather’s good to go so are we!”

Why seed?

Why seed? Well, it’s cheaper and can produce a very strong and healthy lawn, however, this will take time, patience and care.

The base of the lawn is prepared as we would when laying new turf. Once this is done the seed is laid using a spreader ensuring sufficient and even coverage of the lawn area. We then lightly cover the spread area with a top dressing mix, this will help keep the birds away during germination.

Depending on the time of year germination can take place between 7-14 days. However we have previously seeded in late October and it had a green lawn for December, so the weather can make a difference, that’s global warming for you.

Once Grown to a sufficient length the new grass we recommend the new area is tipped to allow the grass to strengthen.

We will advise on all aspects of looking after new turf or re-seeding to help you decide what’s best for you.

“Why not consider “over” seeding an existing lawn and give it new life”

Maintenance

Gardening maintenance

Our maintenance service covers many different areas of gardening, a lot of which you will find in different sections of this site. The service includes regular cutting (lawns and hedges), weeding, pruning, planting and much more.

We run weekly, fortnightly or 4 weekly maintenance plans, allowing you to choose which plan suits you best.

Once booked in we aim to keep to the scheduled plan, only extreme weather conditions may affect our work (snow) during wet weather you will still see us.

However, if work is completed by the end of the year, work may be reduced or stopped with a re-start from March.

We will continue through the winter provided there is work to do.

“Your garden will be treated

as I would my own and we will do as much

as we can within the time booked”
